Tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) overdose

Poisoning caused by excessive medication of the tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) type.

Hyperventilation

State of alveolar ventilation in excess of metabolic requirements, leading to a decreased arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide sometimes resulting in respiratory alkalosis and an increase in pH.

Adjustment disorder (AjD)

Maladaptive emotional and/or behavioural response to an identifiable psychosocial stressor, capturing those who experience difficulties adjusting after a stressful event at a level disproportionate to the severity/intensity of the stressor.

General adaptation syndrome (GAS)

Triphasic pattern of nonspecific physiological responses to injury comprising of an initial alarm phase, followed by a stage of resistance/adaptation, leading eventually to a stage of exhaustion and death.
