Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)

Acute disorder characterized by bilateral lung infiltrates and severe progressive hypoxemia in the absence of any evidence of cardiogenic pulmonary edema within 7 days of an inciting event.

Pulmonary edema

Abnormal accumulation of extravascular fluid in the lung parenchyma.

Pleural effusion

Accumulation of fluid in the pleural cavity (between parietal and visceral pleura)

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

Respiratory disease characterized by persistent airflow limitation that is usually progressive and associated with an enhanced chronic inflammatory response in the airways and the lung to noxious particles or gases.
