Painful peripheral corneal ulceration of unknown etiology.

  • Rarely perforates

Clinical features

Mooren’s ulcer: Crescent-shaped ulceration with an overhanging central edge and a vascularized base are seen in the temporal periphery of the cornea. Ⓒ 2014 American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Management

Excision of 4-7 mm strip of adjacent conjunctiva

Eliminates conjunctival sources of callagenase & proteoglycans

Corticosteroids

Reduce inflammation
